James Gunn has been having a banner few years. After achieving critical acclaim for cult films like Slither and Super, the director was able to try his hand at a big budget movie when he directed and co-wrote Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The film proved to be an idiosyncratic romp and a surprise hit across the world. As such, anticipation has been high for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which looks to up the ante while maintaining all the elements fans loved about the first film.

In between crafting comedic space operas, Gunn has been able to get back to his roots. With Wolf Creek director Greg McClean at the helm, Gunn has crafted the script for a new horror flick called The Belko Experiment. Described as Battle Royale meets Office Space, the movie sees a group of Americans working at an office building in Columbia get locked in and told to start killing each other. It’s a wild premise, but the film looks to be nothing short of brutal. In other words, it’s the perfect type of film to have its trailer remade using LEGOs.

The trailer, which you can view up top, comes courtesy of YouTube channel Huxley Berg Studios. According to the user, Gunn himself actually requested the remake. These sorts of trailer reimaginings have been increasingly popular over the past few years. Just in the last couple of months, we’ve seen Logan and Power Rangers get a similar treatment. The Belko one in particular provides us with quite a bloody display of bricks. It even manages a Guardians Easter egg, as the minifigure for Michael Rooker’s character is Yondu.

The LEGO movie franchise has grown increasingly popular over the past few of years. The LEGO Batman Movie just made a splash at the box office, and Ninjago is hoping to do the same later this year. Still, we can’t imagine the series will ever decide to go this dark. As such, it’s fun to see grittier and more violent affairs rendered in brick form. You can check out the original red band trailer for the movie to compare the two. Meanwhile, a third trailer has continued to tease the gore we’re in for when The Belko Experiment drops this Friday.

With the film just a few days from release, the marketing for Belko Experiment has ramped up in hopes of getting the word out. We’ve seen the movie’s characters highlighted and got our first tense clip from the film. That’s likely the last we’ll see before the movie comes out, but expect it to do fairly well once it does given the pedigree of those involved. After all, before Gunn began working with superheroes, he had a long history of writing and directing horror fare - plus Scooby-Doo movies. Hopefully, The Belko Experiment will fall into the former category.
