Avengers: Infinity War is simply an “incredible” movie, according to Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. The latest from Anthony and Joe Russo (Captain America: Civil War) has a tough act to follow in Black Panther, but Infinity War still has a chance to be the biggest moviegoing event yet for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It already is in terms of cast size and sheer scale.

Gunn may be busy working on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but he’s also an executive producer for Infinity War and helped the Russo brothers with the Guardians characters featured in the movie. And apparently, Gunn has now feasted his eyes on the full cut of Infinity War for the first time. And while it comes as no surprise that the man behind the Guardians of the Galaxy movies would be publicly complimentary of the Avengers sequel, he sure seems thrilled by what he’s just seen.

As he said via his Twitter account on Wednesday, Gunn succinctly described Infinity War as “INCREDIBLE” after he saw the movie. “Wow!!!! And that’s all I’ll say for the time being,” he added. Gunn frequently praises the work of his MCU brethren. He gave props to Ryan Coogler for the immense success of Black Panther in its opening weekend, and published a lengthy Facebook post praising Taika Waititi’s work on Thor: Ragnarok.

Gunn is one of several MCU directors who collaborated with the Russos to bring all of the different characters from the MCU together for Infinity War. The brothers also mentioned Coogler, Waititi, Doctor Strange’s Scott Derrickson, and Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Peyton Reed in an interview with Screen Rant. Anthony Russo described their work with the other directors as a “real collaborative united artists approach” to making Infinity War.

Gunn certainly didn’t hesitate to hand out the highest of praise for Infinity War. It should only build anticipation for what’s already perhaps the most anticipated movie of the year. The record-breaking new trailer should be evidence enough that fans can’t wait to see what Gunn’s seen.

Of course, with any movie, you can never put too much stock into instant reactions on Twitter. Especially when it’s coming from a key piece of the production and someone with his own large stake in the success of the MCU. But anyone familiar with Gunn’s social media musings would know that he’s as honest and open as any filmmaker in the industry with his comments. It’s not a shock that he praised the work of his colleagues on Infinity War, but his excitement is almost certainly genuine.
