Founder of Blumhouse Productions, Jason Blum, teases Halloween 2 talks with star Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis became synonymous with the character Laurie Strode back in 1978 in John Carpenter’s original horror masterpiece Halloween. The actress returned to her famous role for four Halloween sequels, including last year’s Halloween, which retconned all the past Halloween sequels.
Halloween 2 was rumored to be in development back before David Gordon Green’s Halloween had even been released. Co-screenwriter Danny McBride confirmed at the end of October that sequel talks for Halloween were officially underway, and fans have gotten a handful of updates since then. In February, it was reported that Blumhouse was looking at Scott Teems to write the Halloween sequel, with reports coming out around the same time that Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak would be returning for the film. Blum previously said he was interested in making around 10 more Halloween sequels, and it looks like he’s starting to tease one of them.
Blum recently took to Twitter to tease the development of Halloween 2. His tweet simply says “We’re discussing stuff” and shows a picture of himself and Curtis. Curtis can also be seen holding a 7-inch NECA figure of her character Laurie Strode. The tweet doesn’t really reveal anything about the sequel, besides the fact that Blum has met with Curtis about the project. His full tweet can be seen below:
Curtis has shown interest in returning for Halloween 2, explaining that she would return if Green returned to direct. Carpenter also said at one point that he wanted to return to the Halloween sequel to once again score the film. Likewise, original Michael Myers actor Nick Castle explained he would also be open to coming back for the sequel. With everyone that seems to be onboard for the project and the critical reception of 2018’s Halloween, it seems incredibly likely that a sequel will be coming sooner rather than later.
Even though Curtis hasn’t officially signed on for the sequel just yet, this is a good sign for horror fans. If Curtis is indeed returning for the sequel, then Green could also be returning to direct given Curtis’ past comments. Many people, including Carpenter, think that Green’s Halloween is the best since the original, so Blumhouse would certainly benefit from seeing the director return. There aren’t a lot of concrete details on Halloween 2 just yet, but Blum’s recent update at least reveals that progress is being made.
