The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will start filming this fall, Kevin Smith himself has revealed. The movie will unite Smith with Jason Mewes, serving as a belated sequel to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. The plot will see Jay and Bob on a mission to Hollywood once more: this time, they’re aiming to halt the production of Bluntman Vs Chronic, a dark and gritty reboot that will pit their superhero doppelgangers against one another.

As with Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, it’s probably wise to expect shed loads of appearances from Smith’s famous friends. Although Smith and Ben Affleck aren’t best buds anymore, there are other superhero actors that Smith could turn to in order to fill out his cameo quota. After all, Smith is returning to Supergirl again this year, to direct his third episode of The CW’s Melissa Benoist-starring series.

Whoever it is that Smith is lining up for funny guest roles, they will need to find time in their schedules fairly soon. The film must be deep in pre-production already, so it’s likely that those things are already being discussed and arranged. After all, as this Tweet from Smith proves, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will go in front of cameras this fall:

16 years ago, #JayAndSilentBobStrikeBack was released in theaters. And this Fall, we shoot a follow-up flick called #JayAndSilentBobReboot! pic.twitter.com/bULHxzX3aj— KevinSmith (@ThatKevinSmith) August 25, 2017

As Smith’s Tweet highlights, it’s been sixteen years since Jay and Silent Bob last headlined a movie. The Hollywood landscape has changed a lot since then, which Smith is keenly aware of. When he announced this new movie back in February, the indie cinema icon described Jay and Silent Bob Reboot as “a tongue-in-cheek, silly-ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business’s recent re-do obsession”.

Fans will be pleased to learn that Jay and Silent Bob Reboot is pressing ahead and that filming is being planned. Not long ago, Smith was teasing Clerks III, only to later reveal that he couldn’t get the full cast back together and the second sequel to his first feature couldn’t happen. There was also talk of a Mallrats 2 TV series, but that met a sticky end as well, leaving Jay and Silent Bob Reboot to act as the savior of Smith’s long dormant ‘View Askewniverse’.

Admirers of Tusk and Yoga Hosers needn’t worry, either. Smith is returning to the comedic shared universe that launched his career, but that doesn’t mean he’s giving up on his horror output: the director recently revealed that he’s been shooting a monster movie entitled Killroy Was Here. Always one to talk up his projects, Smith described the Killroy creature as “the Golem, the Boogeyman and the Grim Reaper combined.”

Jay and Silent Bob Reboot does not have a release date as of yet.
