Thor: Ragnarok’s Jeff Goldblum would like the Grandmaster and the Collector to team up at some point. Ragnarok, the third solo Thor film and 17th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reunited viewers with the God of Thunder as well as the Hulk – the two members of the Avengers who had been absent since Avengers: Age of Ultron. The film also introduced new characters, such as Thor’s older sister, Hela (Cate Blanchett), Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and the Grandmaster (Goldblum), ruler of the planet Sakaar.

Although this was the first appearance of The Grandmaster on the big screen, he has a connection with a character audiences have previously (and briefly) seen in another MCU film: The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro. Last summer, during Marvel’s panel at San Diego Comic Con, it was confirmed that the Grandmaster is the Collector’s brother. And with the MCU in constant expansion, Goldblum would like to see his character team up with del Toro’s in the future.

In an interview with Toronto Sun, Jeff Goldblum was asked about which Marvel hero he would like his character to meet up with in the future. Although Hela is not a hero, per se, Goldblum explained he keeps wanting to have scenes with Cate Blanchett. He also mentioned that he would enjoy working with Benicio del Toro as their characters have a familial connection in the comics.

Both the Grandmaster and the Collector are part of the Elders of the Universe – a group of supervillains in the comics who are also the last survivors of extinct races and are known for their personal obsessions, such as collecting, fighting, and gaming. The Collector (who was the first Elder to appear in the MCU), is close to the Grandmaster (whose real name is EnDwi Gast) and has been depicted in different media appearances as his brother, even though they’re from different species.

“Well, I overlapped with one day of Cate Blanchett’s shooting and she’s so spectacular as Hela. I keep wanting to have scenes with her. We worked together on a Wes Anderson movie awhile ago – The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou – and I sure would love to do anything with her. But, in the comic books, the character of the Grandmaster is the brother of The Collector, played by Benicio del Toro, who I adore. So I would enjoy doing something with him. That would be fun”.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously expressed interest in having the Grandmaster and the Collector together in a film – an idea that would work perfectly now that the MCU is expanding its cosmic side. While the Grandmaster’s fate is still unknown, the Collector will return in Avengers: Infinity War, hopefully with a bigger role than in his previous appearance.

Having both the Grandmaster and the Collector in the MCU could give way for other Elders of the Universe to appear in future films, but until then, let’s hope these two can meet up in a near future and bring new stuff to the cosmic side of the MCU.
