Watch as clueless Jeopardy! contestants hilariously mistake Tom Holland for prior Spider-Man actors Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. With Spider-Man: Far From Home soaring to huge box office numbers, there is no doubt that Holland has won the hearts of audiences with his portrayal of Peter Parker aka. Spider-Man. Holland of course first took over the role of Spidey in Captain America: Civil War, and has since returned for Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and this year’s epic blockbuster Avengers: Endgame.

Long before Holland came along, the very first cinematic Spider-Man to make a huge impact was of course Tobey Maguire, who held down the role of everyone’s favorite web-slinging Marvel superhero in Sam Raimi’s mostly beloved trio of Spider-Man movies. After Maguire’s very successful run as Spidey, the role was taken over by Andrew Garfield for the ill-fated The Amazing Spider-Man and its maligned sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2. After that pair of duds, the franchise was quickly rebooted with a lot of help from Marvel Studios, after Spider-Man rights holders Sony struck a deal to allow Spidey to officially enter the MCU.

It’s safe to say that Spider-Man’s arrival in the MCU, and Tom Holland’s arrival in the role, were the best things that ever happened to the character, at least movie-wise. Apparently however, not everyone out there is aware of Holland’s contribution to the Spider-Man cinematic legend. On Jeopardy!, a question came up asking contestants to identify the actor who returns as Spider-Man in Far From Home, and both men who rang in got it very very wrong, one naming Garfield and the other naming Maguire. See the hilarious clip in the space below (via James Stevenson):

What makes the above display of poor Spider-Man knowledge even more head-scratching is that the clue contains a video clip, which shows an actor who is clearly not either Maguire or Garfield in the Spider-Man suit. By this time, it would seem Holland should have firmly established himself in the general public eye as Spider-Man, but evidently these two particular Jeopardy! contestants don’t pay very close attention to pop culture. The big winner here though has to be Garfield, whose time as Spider-Man has largely been swept under the rug in the years since, but whose performance in the role obviously made a large impression on at least one person.

Despite Holland’s portrayal of Spidey not having penetrated the consciousness of Jeopardy! contestants, it’s safe to say the actor has firmly taken control of the role and may now keep it as long as he likes. As the MCU prepares to enter a different phase of its existence following Far From Home, it will be interesting to see how both Holland and the character mature in the coming years.
